Lodge History:

In 2007, Markham Union Masonic Lodge Celebrated 150 years, making it one of the oldest lodges in Canada

The Name Markham Union Lodge

Several theories exist as to the reasons for the name Markham Union Lodge.

  1. It has been suggested that the word ‘Union’ is an abbreviation for the word ‘Unionville ’, the hamlet in which the Lodge was located during the first fourteen months of its existence and Markham for the Municipality.
  2. Others have suggested that another Lodge existed in this area prior to Markham Union and that the word ‘ Union’ indicates a joining or amalgamation of Lodges.
  3. The word ‘Union’ may simply indicate a uniting or joining together of men with similar beliefs and ideals.
